YES Training 2012

I am offering another Shakespeare training this year, complete with everything a homeschooling mom or mentor needs to teach acting and direct a Shakespeare play!

DATE: Saturday, AUGUST 18th from 8am to 5pm (With an hour lunch in there, too.) PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN SACK LUNCH!

COST: This year, because I'm offering a lot more training AND because I've got a better idea of how much it costs for the manuals, I'm charging $50 per person. Remember, the manual is included, too!

MANUALS: You will each receive two booklets; one for teaching the first semester material, and a second one for the second semester class and play production. These are packed with information, but the training will help you know how to use them. You will also receive the student manual with license to make copies for your students.

PREPARATION: We will be discussing one of Shakespeare's greatest works; The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. So each participant is required to read, watch, or listen to this play before the training.
A word of caution: There are some wonderful productions of this great play, but unfortunately, I have yet to find one that does not include very inappropriate acting choices in Act III, Scene 4. It is the scene where Hamlet is talking privately with his mother in her chamber as Polonious, the servant, eavesdrops while hidden. Both of the productions I am listing below use staging that is Oedipal in nature-- very inappropriate sexually. If you choose to watch one of the movies, I suggest you skip that entire scene and read it instead so you still know what's going on. (The Shakespearean text is fine in that scene.)

Here are the movie links: (Remember, that scene in both these productions is very sexually inappropriate.)
  • Hamlet
  •  (starring Mel Gibson, directed by Franco Zeffirelli, 1990)
There are other versions, but most are unrated or rated R, and so, of course I do not recommend them. I understand the most recent version with David Tennant may be alright, but I have not seen it myself. When in doubt, READ it! ;-)
REGISTERING: E-mail me and let me know you'd like to attend. Then, you will be sent a PayPal invoice via e-mail for your tuition. Tuition is due by August 10th so that I can print the correct number of manuals in a timely manner.

LOCATION: The training will be held at the Smithson's home in Gilbert at 3333 E Princeton Ave. (Higley and Guadalupe)

So, if you've ever wanted to teach a  Shakespeare class, or would just like to know more about teaching  Shakespeare and drama to your own kids, join us for this day of learning and fun! :-D

Please e-mail me or call me ASAP to reserve your spot.
